Meet Our Speakers

Jessica Balsam (she/her) is the Senior Director, Prospect Development at the University of Washington. She and her team of research, due diligence, and prospect management strategists analyze prospect data for the 170+ major gift fundraisers at the university. She played a leadership role in the ten-year, $6.3B Be Boundless campaign that closed in 2020. She is past president of Apra-NW, the 2016 recipient of the Apra Distinguished Service Award, and past chair of the Apra Advocacy and Editorial Advisory committees.

Katie James (she/they) is the Director of Research and Prospect Management with the Portland State University Foundation. Katie joined the foundation in 2013, building on prior experience with donor relations at the University of Utah. Her work supports the Foundation’s mission to advance student success and institutional priorities through data-driven philanthropy. She holds a BA in Psychology and an MPA from the University of Utah.
